A Legacy Woven with Faith, Freedom, and Community
*Ballygunge Ekush Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity* proudly completes 79 years of celebrating Durga Puja—a journey that began alongside the birth of a free nation. What started as a humble community celebration has grown into a living legacy, where faith meets culture, and tradition embraces social consciousness.
Founded in 1947, the year India gained Independence, Ekush Pally’s Durga Puja was born from the collective dream of unity and cultural expression. Visionary and eminent citizens such as Jamini Roy—the legendary Indian painter and Padma Bhushan awardee, Atul Basu, an eminent oil painter of Bengal, and Dr. R. Ahmed, the distinguished dental surgeon and donor of India’s first dental college—came together with many others to plant the seeds of this enduring tradition at 21 Pally, Ballygunge Phari.
Over the decades, Durga Puja at Ekush Pally has evolved beyond ritual and celebration. It has become a reflection of society itself—a platform for artistic expression, a meeting ground of cultures, and a symbol of social responsibility. The Samity has always believed that celebration carries meaning only when it uplifts lives. Empowering communities, standing beside the people, and nurturing human values remain at the heart of everything we do.
As we move forward, Ballygunge Ekush Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity continues to honour its past while embracing the future—carrying forward a legacy built on togetherness, compassion, and the timeless spirit of Durga Puja.
